Vaccinations offer a very good level of protection against disease (approximately 70%). They work by stimulating your immune system to produce antibodies against the disease which the vaccine was designed to protect against. Antibody levels build gradually after the vaccine is administered, and reach peak levels two to three weeks after vaccination. Some vaccines elicit a better response than others, and may require more than one dose or injection in order to achieve optimal immunity, as well as frequent booster doses.

There is no vaccine against any disease that can offer 100% protection, but levels of protection that they do offer makes them essential. Without vaccines, we cannot keep you safe on your trip, but it is important that you know how to minimise your exposure to the disease. Many travel clinics will simply tell you which vaccines are required, administer them, and not take the time to inform you about the disease itself and how to minimise your exposure to it.

At Teddington Pharmacy, we set aside time during our consultations to inform you about your individual risk of contracting the diseases (as ascertained from questions about your itinerary and activities), how to minimise your exposure to them and whether you need to be vaccinated. We then encourage you to make informed decisions about which vaccines to purchase, and then we vaccinate you. We offer all travel vaccines.
